Out of Sight and Out of Mind!

Dear Residents,

Are you the type who likes to keep your surroundings clean; you know like having it neat and nice?

Well, it is fair enough to keep ones surrounding clean. By all means, do cut the grass, do trim the plants and the trees, and do throw away unwanted items such as old furniture. Keeping your surrounding, especially around your house clean and neat is a noble virtue. It also keeps potential threats and diseases away such as Dengue.

But wait. What do you do with the rubbish?

Do you put it all in a bag and placed outside your house? If you are one of them who does this then well done! That is the right step as Alam Flora does come and pick up the rubbish periodically.

But do you know within our midst, there are some inconsiderate people? They also like to keep their surrounding clean. They also do as you do.

Except, they would take the rubbish and dispose of it at other neighbour’s front yard or any road shoulder that is out of their sight! This includes furniture, cut trees and unwanted plants. Please take a look at the following pictures taken today at the road shoulders around the playground.

What's the problem? After all, its no longer mine!

Please have some consideration as the rubbish is now sitting in front of your neighbour’s house! That should not be the way. You should leave it in front of your house and let Alam Flora do their job. If you have bulky and big items to throw then notify Alam Flora. They will come and get these big and bulky items off your hands. But treating the road shoulder as a dumping ground is not only irresponsible but totally inconsiderate to your neighbours. This kind of actions should be stopped.

So, dear neighbours. If you see anyone throwing anything where they are not suppose to, please do snap a picture and send it to us. We will publish their ‘deeds’ to show their ‘best’ behaviour for all to see.

APRIL 2009 NEWSLETTER

Dear Residents of 11 Trees,

We would like to update you on the progress that your Resident’s Association has been working on over the last few months.

After our AGM which was held in MPSJ a few weeks ago, we have now got a few new names to the list. We would like to welcome Encik Khairuddin and Mr. Murali to the team and would like to thank Mr. Leong for his kind services since we started a few months ago.

Anyway, since then, several meetings have been held to look at the construction of the fence (and several other issues) which has been delayed for some months now due to many reasons, one of which is funds. The Committee has finally come to a consensus and important decisions were made. You will now see construction work commencing very soon.

Building of Perimeter Fencing:

The award to construct the fencing has already been unanimously given to a contractor by the committee and work is to commence this Saturday, 18 April 2009 and is expected to take about 4 weeks to complete. This works will cover the chain link fence around the perimeter and several gates. Please do cooperate with the contractor by ensuring you do not hinder or obstruct them when construction work is underway.

Sponsors for Fencing:

The Committee would like to thank all the generous sponsors who have contributed (some several hundred Ringgit) to the fund. The collection up until today is about RM30,000 specifically for the project. We are short of some RM20, 000 which we need to collect from you, the generous donors and we are confident of collecting the difference.

If you have not done your part still, we would very much like to appeal to you to do so as we would like to complete the project successfully. Please do contribute a minimum of RM100 per household to the fund so that the Committee can carry out their task successfully. We would like to thank you in advance for your generosity.

Committee Walkabout:

The Committee members will be doing a walkabout this weekend (18/19 April 2009) to meet with you the residents who have not paid. Please do help by getting ready your payments so that we could collect the funds as quickly as possible. Please make your cheques/payment to “Persatuan Penduduk USJ11/3, Subang Jaya, Selangor”. We, the Committee, are going to help the individual street leaders collect the subscription/donations from you.

And if you have not filled in the membership form (which is required by the Registrar of Society – ROS), please do so by filling in the details and have it signed off. We will collect that from you as well. We appreciate your cooperation on this matter and we look forward to meeting with you this coming weekend. For those who have not subscribed at all, please do so by signing up as a member. We welcome you to join us to make our kampung a better place to live in.

Increase in Security Measures:

There were many suggestions and requests to increase the security checks in and around our entrance/area by our guards from our subscribers. As such, the Committee will be looking into increasing the steps to check visitors/outsiders coming into USJ 11/3. This step is taken to ensure our security and our overall safety is enhanced. As such, we should expect the security guards to ask more questions for visitors coming into the area. Please do advise your visitors that such measures will be taken to avoid any misunderstanding.

Suggestions and ideas:

The Committee would like to welcome your feedback, ideas and suggestions on how we can improve further and the types of programs that you would like us to carry out for you. At this present moment, there are plans to have community evenings at the playground area and many more activities. You are encouraged to suggest to us via email so that we can post it in out blogs. Please do not be shy in suggesting whatever you think the activities that will benefit the residents here. We assure you, that the Committee, will try to carry it out if feasible as best we can to foster better neighborliness amongst us all.

We are also looking for “Bureau Leaders” to take charge of certain activities such as sports, social visits, family day, fruit parties, etc so that we can organize as much activities as possible. Please do give us your names and we will include you in the organizing of such activities. We welcome and look forward to your participation.

USJ 11/3 Basketball team shines at USJRA

SUBANG JAYA: There were laughter, running, jumping and of course, lots of sweat during the inaugural USJRA-NST Streets Family Day futsal and basketball challenge.

Nineteen teams from USJ competed in the futsal under-18 and under-15 categories.

Held at the MPSJ field, the event saw over 60 teams participating in the futsal under-18, futsal under-15, basketball under-18 and under-15 events.

Youths in jerseys of yellow, orange, blue and green pitted their skills against each other on the futsal turf, while on the other side of the track, groups of three were battling it out at the basketball challenge.

The event kicked off at 10am and ended at 5pm, with 19 teams competing in the futsal category, while 48 teams took part in the 3-On-3 basketball challenge.

There were a lot of cheers when Black Mamba, the under-18 futsal team, emerged victorious with a I-0 win over rival Sarjana Kalumpang. Seafield Plus came out third.

Black Mamba captain Muhd Fadzlie Rosalie, 17, said it was sheer determination and a bit of luck that got them through to the final.

"It was an exciting final. We got lucky in the last few minutes as T. Surain Raaj scored the wining goal. He was assisted by Nazmi Ahmad Fadzil. The minute the ball hit the back of the net, it was game over for Sarjana Kalumpang," he said.

Meanwhile, in the under-15 futsal tournament, SJYC Orange beat SJYC Blue to emerge champion. Third place went to Las Caupe.

SJYC Orange captain Abdul Muhaimin Tuan Hassan, 14, said that SJYC Blue was a tough team to play against, but it was their strategy that won the game.

"They were fast and strong, but we had our strategy planned out from the start. That was how we won," he said.

Teammate Daniel Othman, 15, said he had a great time at the event. "It was so much fun coming out here today. We got to meet a lot of friends and participate in a huge event like this," he said.

The highlight of the day was the celebrity futsal match that saw the New Straits Times, ntv7, MPSJ and FlyFm teams pit their skills against one another in an elimination match.

New Straits Times was the first to exit the celebrity game after losing 1-0 to MPSJ. In the second round, FlyFm drew with ntv7. They teamed up and went on to play MPSJ in the final.

The final got off to a good start, but it was clear that MPSJ dominated the game. They were skillful and had more possession of the ball. But that did not stop FlyFm and ntv7 from scoring two goals.

Within minutes MPSJ was back in the game by levelling the score.

However, in the last few seconds, MPSJ scored the winning goal with much flair. The game ended 3-2.

Flyfm announcer Prem Shanker said the MPSJ team was skilful. "Those guys had a lot more skills than us. The first goal they scored was done with much style," he said.

Prem said he and the FlyFm team had a ball of a time and was looking forward to more Streets event. "This is a fantastic event. The best part was that we got to meet and mingle with the USJ community," he said.

Over at the 3-On-3 basketball challenge, 48 teams fought hard for a place in the final. USJ 11/3 won first place in the under-15 boys category, followed by SJBA 2 in second place and USJ 12Y in third.

USJ 11/3 captain Ivan Yeap Chen Yuan, 15, said the basketball event was a good way of fostering ties in the community.

"It was an exciting final and teamwork was the key to our success," he said.

Yeap said that despite the hot weather, they had great fun.

"We were surprised to win as we had very little practice. The first few games were easy, but as we progressed to the final, the games got tougher. It was our skills on the courts that won the game," he said.

Over at the under-18 boys basketball challenge, team USJ 11/3 was the victor, followed by USJ 3B in second place and SJB A in third.

Team USJ 11/3 captain Kuek Yuen Sam, 18, said USJ B was a tough team to play against. "They were good and had skills, but by playing more defensively and counter attacking, we managed to beat them," he said.

Meanwhile, in the under-18 women's basketball challenge, team 3 Blind Mice won first place, followed by USJ 11/3 and USJC 12 A in second and third place respectively .

3 Blind Mice captain Cherish Moy Su-Grace, 16, said her team never expected to be champion.

"We were really surprised to win first place. There were so many other better teams," she said.

Inspiration for you in these difficult times!

Dear Residents,

This is an inspirational "Handbook" send to us by Mike - thought I'd share it with all of you in these difficult times. It does have a lot of relevance to our everyday lives so do read on:

HANDBOOK 2009

Health:

1. Drink plenty of water.

First Official Meeting for Persatuan Penduduk USJ 11/3

The first AGM was held at the auditorium in MPSJ this morning, March 21, 2009 of which there were some 80 residents present including all the pro-tem committee members.

It was officiated by our Councillor for Zone 3, Y Bhg. Encik Ismail Kamal. Also present was Tuan Amir, Inspector from the USJ 8 police station.

Residents began to gather in the auditorium area around 9:30 am.

The meeting started at 10:00 am with our pro-tem Chairman. Mr. Ng Peng Hin, giving his opening speech. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation and thanked the support of each and every one of the pro-tem committee members who has worked diligently to have this association set up formally and to make the security project a success in such a short time. He was confident that it will only grow in strength from here on.

Then it was followed a speech by Y. Bhg. Encik Ismail Kamal. He congratulated the Pro-tem committee members for having the Association registered successfully with the ROS which will strengthen the status of the Association and also will bring a lot of benefits to the residents in the area. He also touched on the vacant land which was privately owned on the playground and appealed to the residents to allow the development of some private bungalows.

He had objected to the building of commercial property on that piece of land. He also expressed his hope that while the security was now carried out by the association, he hoped that the police will strengthen their presence in the area to prevent crime and to provide additional security to the area. With that said, he officiated the opening of the meeting.

After that, both our special guest was presented with a token of appreciation from our Chairman and our Vice Chairman. Light refreshment followed after the formalities.

The formal meeting commenced at 11:00 am after the light refreshment. The office bearers of pro-tem committee gave their respective reports after that. There were some suggestions and queries as to how the moneys were spent and also going forward, some suggestion on how to make improve the reporting in the future. With that, the pro-tem committee was officially dissolved.

Mr. Jeffrey Khoo was appointed the temporary chairman to carry out the formalities.

The entire pro-tem committee, except our special committee member, Mr. K.L. Wong who has moved to USJ 16, our Street Leader for 3L, Mr. Leong and our Treasurer, Mr. Jeffrey Khoo did not stand for the re-election. All the pro-tem committee members and office bearers were then voted in unanimously by all who were present.

The Treasurer post is now taken over by Mr. Chan who was the Vice-Treasurer before while his Vice-Treasurer’s post is now held by a new member, Encik Khairuddin. Mr. Leong’s position is now taken over by a member from 3L, Mr. Murali. We have also appointed 2 auditors to check on the accounts, Mr. Selva and Mr. Vincent. The USJ 11/3 Residents Association welcomes all of them into the Committee.

Mr. Jeffrey Khoo who has relinquished his Treasurer position due to personal reasons has now been appointed as Advisor to the Association.

The entire Committee then took their respective place on stage and they introduced themselves to the residents who were present. Mr. Ng, the Chairman of the 11/3 Resident’s Association thanked all the new committee for their commitment and time and look forward to the future plans.

He said now that our Resident Association is formally registered, it will give us a lot of clout to get things done as we will be able to speak with one voice. It has also given the Association a legal standing which will make accountability an important part of running the Association.

He also expressed special thanks to Y. Bhg Dato Faridah, our Committee member who had played a pivotal role in giving us the advise and getting our Association approved in 6 months while a lot of other Association took many years to process with little or no results. He also expressed his thanks to our ADUN, who was not present, YB Hannah Yeoh who had been very supportive of our initiative from the very beginning and has given her support in the form of a letter of recommendation to the ROS.

He then highlighted the need to hasten the building of the perimeter fence and had asked for approval for a budget of RM50,000 to build the fence which saw unanimous support from all who were present. With the fence built, he said, plans will be made to reduce the number of guards and therefore the subsequent running cost of our security in the future. He also pointed out the the entrance at 3A and 3P will be closed permanently.

He also urged other members to come forward and offer their services as sub-committee who can help run more social activities in the future. He also highlighted the indiscriminate disposal of garden waste and old furniture which were strewn over the road shoulders around the playground which should stop. Residents should wait for the Alam Flora truck to collect the waste at the designated times rather than just leave the unwanted items and garden waste in front of other residents homes. This is not only an eyesore but also an inconsiderate practice.

He also highlighted the need to hasten the collection of our subscription which has slowed down somewhat. He hope it will improve in the coming weeks as the funds were important for the Committee to carry out their responsibilities.

With those points discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 12 pm.
