Dear Anonymous, June 8, 2011 4:18.

I understand your anger for the low support for our g&g. May be we should have used words of encouragement instead of others, so that residents will not have another excuse not to pay from their hard earn income.

Dear Resident,

I wish to share part artical from The Sun : Autocratic leadership not effective as inspirational leadership
by Terence Fernandez and Azril Annuar

KUALA LUMPUR (June 5, 2011): Leaders in Malaysia – be they political, business or NGOs tend to be autocratic, believing that leadership comes from a position of power. This autocratic as opposed to inspirational leadership is what may ultimately contribute in a decline in getting the best out of employees and also deter good people from joining an organisation or lead to an exodus of key personnel.

Rajeev Peshawaria
Putting a gun on someone's head or offering them 10 million dollars can never be as effective as inspiring them to your cause, says Rajeev Peshawaria.

"You can get results, but if a leader can inspire his employees or his followers emotionally, the results will be four times more effective," he said.

The International Centre for Leadership in Finance (ICLIF) chief executive officer observed that like many Asian countries, leaders in Malaysia tend to be very authoritarian, unaware that leadership basically is a form of energy.

"When you threaten or reward someone to do something for you, it translates as rational energy. However studies have proven that emotional energy, which stems from purpose and values is four times more powerful as it comes from belief and the heart.

"Someone who follows (a leader) because he believes in the purpose and values of his leader is four times more efficient and more productive," Rajeev said in a recent interview with theSun.

He added that the autocratic mind-set of leaders is a weakness and can hamper the nation's development.

Rajeev, who authored "Too Many Bosses, Too Few Leaders" explained that a leader must have a clear purpose on what he wants to achieve and the values that he wants to impart in order to be more successful.

"He must know what his purpose is, and what sort of value he wants to live his life by and impart.

For instance, look at Mahatma Gandhi. His purpose was freedom and his value was non-violence.

"And he freed a whole country with the strength of his purpose and his non-violence values and millions of people followed, willing to put their lives on the line for him because his belief resonated with their hearts.

"That is the kind of strength that a leader with clear purpose and values can harness. A leader must also have the willpower to persevere through hardship," said Rajeev.

Asked if this can be applied to Malaysians, due to our cynical nature, Rajeev replied that a leader will never allow environmental factors to change them, striving on to achieve their vision and purpose despite all hardships.

"Look at Mahatma Gandhi, imagined what he went through. But he never gave up. Look at Nelson Mandela, after decades of being imprisoned, the moment he was freed he said to his captors: I forgive you.

"Don't you think there were times they felt like giving up? But they never did. This is what makes a leader. They remember their purpose and they follow their values," said Rajeev.

ICLIF was initiated by Bank Negara in 2003. Rajeev who took over last year for a three-year term said he plans to bring the very best minds to Malaysia from all over the world to front leadership and governance institutes in the region.

“(Bank NegaraGovernor) Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz's vision is to create the best leadership institution in the region with the best minds coming here to share what they know with Malaysians and develop Malaysian leaders........
