Please light up my life!

Dear Residents,

As part of our on-going improvement programs, we will be embarking on lighting up all the streets in our 'kampung'. We have already started to identify all the TNB posts which are without a lamp installed to estimate the cost of installation and operations.

Once we have established all these details, we will make a formal application to TNB to have all the street lights installed on post which are now without any lamps. We anticipate this will take about two months to complete.

We believe with the brightness the additional lights will provide, it will help us reduce further the crime rate as intruders and outsiders can easily be spotted at night. It will definitely keep our area safe.

However, we will make a few exceptions as there are also those cheapskates who can afford but do not pay. In this instance, if the TNB post is right in front of your home and there are no street lights nistalled onto it atter we carry out this project, you know the reason why! So pay up - so as to be fair to your other neighbours who are paying the bills for you.

Anyway, there are a few more ideas and projects that your Committee has in mind but we will only implement them when additional funds are available.

If you have any good ideas, please do send in your comments.

Thank you.

The Committee

Jan 8 - A sad day for all Malaysians

Today Friday, Jan 8 is indeed a sad day for us all. It is not normal for me to post something with "political” connotations but I guess this issue cannot be ignored by us all who like to and have been living in peace as Malaysians. Just take a look at our 'beautiful' and peaceful kampung!

With the controversy surrounding the word “ALLAH” being pursued by narrow minded people and encouraged by inaction from the government, the inevitable has happened.

Malaysia today has joined the ranks of the Banana Republics of the world with the torching of the churches in the Klang Valley and the uncontested (by the police) protest by certain Muslim groups.

Aren’t we living in a multi-racial country where we so proudly call ourselves “Malaysia Truly Asia”? What went wrong?

But take heart; while there are such people with narrow views, there are also some like-minded people who make us truly Malaysians. I am extracting an article here written by Shahwan Mustapha Kamal which I think sums up the temporary loss of sanity in our country.

PEACE BE UPON YOU!

What are you fighting for?
by Shazwan Mustafa Kamal

JAN 8 — This goes out to all the would-be protestors who plan to demonstrate after Friday prayers as well as the arsonists who are responsible for burning the churches.

Dear all,

Assalamualaikum. Do you know what this greeting actually means? Of course, you do. You probably say this a few times a day. Heck, the same people who were at the gathering outside the Sultan's palace yesterday said this to each other. You know what, even the cow’s-head protestors last year started their tirade after prayers with an "Assalamualaikum".

Let me ask you again: do you know what it means?

Never mind the fact that at least three churches have been attacked. Let's not think about the fact that huge protests are being planned today by "NGOs". Let's also not forget that many of these "champions" of Islam are fighting against non-Muslims being allowed to use "Allah". It's so "brilliant" what they are doing. I am SO sure that non-Muslims will be persuaded after this to convert to Islam.

In fact, judging from what's been happening in this country, from stepping on a cow's head, attacking churches, demonstrations... I'm pretty sure a really good picture of Islam is being painted, don't you think?

Let's forget all that. Freeze time, okay? Just for a minute, guys.

Now, I admit that I'm not an overly religious person. I don't pray five times a day, I question everything, I'm ruled by logic. But going back to when I was young, I remember asking my Ustaz this during Quran class:

Me: Ustaz, what does assalamualaikum mean?

Ustaz: My dear boy, that is a good question. It means PEACE BE UPON YOU. We say it to people when we meet them.

Now, I can't quote surahs like a learned scholar and point out verses to justify my point. Perhaps I've also grown jaded these days.

But you know something?

Peace be upon you. Imagine that. Such a beautiful translation, a phrase so simple yet so revealing about the nature of Islam. You do not need to go through scores of books to ascertain what Islam is. It's a religion of peace. Each time you meet someone, the first thing a true Muslims wishes on the other person is peace.

Now back to reality. Can you imagine a Muslim, all bent with purpose and determination, going somewhere with an intent to cause harm? What kind of Muslim is that? How does his faith propel him to propagate violence?

From what I understand the use of force is always the LAST RESORT in the Quran. (Check it yourself, my learned Muslim friends, yes you with the protest banners.)

And my friends, believe me... we are FAR from being put in a place where we have no other alternatives.

Wanting to harm another person, or even the thought of it, is clearly wrong in Islam, no matter what justification you give: you say that it is a question of aqidah, and you have to protect your religion from being belittled.

Hello, who is having a crisis of faith here? Christians using the word Allah will it cause Muslims to be converted to Christianity? How shallow can one's mindset be? If that is all it takes for your faith to be shaken, I think you're in big trouble my friend.

Violence is an easy way out, yes. It's also cool, isn't it, to be all high and mighty?

Forgive me. I digress at times. See I get carried away by emotions too, just like you.

You know what the difference between us is though? I always remember this old saying: sabar separuh daripada iman.

Patience is a test of faith indeed.

So how's your faith doing today?

ANOTHER LOUD ANONYMOUS WRITER

Happy New Year to all!

Hope you had a wonderful year end celebration. Lately, there have been some anonymous comments that were sent in to be posted on our website but instead of it just being comments, it has now taken prominence in the form of a written article. I just cannot resist responding to it. Read on what the anonymous writer has written and then read our response. Happy Reading...!

I AM A RESIDENT OF USJ4.

THANK GOD, FOR THE MOMENT WE DO NOT HAVE AS YET A GNG.

MY USJ HOUSE HAS BEEN BROKEN IN A FEW YEARS AGO BUT I AM ONE OF THE MANY RIGHT THINKING PEOPLE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BARRICADE PUBLIC ROADS TO THE INCONVENIENCE OF ALL.

JUST BECAUSE YOU FEAR FOR YOUR PROPERTY OR LIVES YOU GO TO THE EXTREME.

YOU ALL ARE PROBABLY BARRICADED BY SECURITY FIRMS WHO TAKE YOUR MONEY AS PROTECTION MONEY.

YOU ALL CLAIM TO HAVE THE MAJORITY SUPPORT- SHOW ME ALL THE NAMES, ADDRESSES, TELEPHONE NUMBERS AND SIGNATURES!

EVEN IF YOU HAVE 100 PER CENT RESIDENTS' SUPPORT, WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS STILL VERY, VERY WRONG. IT IS NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THIS PERSON GILBERT OR WHAT.

YOU ARE MERELY ENJOYING A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY- SO LONG AS YOU ALL ARE IN THE PROTECTION ARMS OF SO-CALLED SECURITY GUARDS.

WHO GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO STOP VEHICLES?

PARANG-WIELDING AND GUN-TOTTING ROBBERS AREN'T SCARED OF YOUR GUARDS EVEN IF THEY ARE ARMED.

THERE HAVE ALREADY BEEN CASES WHERE GNG IN USJ HAVE REPORTED BREAK-INS, ROBBERIES ETC.

YOU ARE ALL KIDDING YOURSELF AND TAKING THE LAW INTO YOUR OWN HANDS.

SINCE CRIME IS SO RAMPANT EVERYWHERE, YOU CAN EVEN BE ROBBED IN A SHOPPING CENTRE, CAR PARK ETC.

OUR RESPONSE:

Oh well, here we go again! Here is another coward who goes behind the ‘ANONYMOUS’ brand. This poor soul is probably very worked up about the sprouting of G&G everywhere so much so he/she has to resort to write such comments which I have decided it deserve more prominence.

The writer is so generous to robbers as his/her house was broken into and yet did nothing to help him/herself and yet declared him/herself “RIGHT THINKING PEOPLE”!

HELLLLOOOOOO????!! “RIGHT THINKING PEOPLE?”

You should be in Tanjung Rambutan and have your head examined! And there are only a few of you – lets face it. Look at the many G&G schemes coming up. Why are there so many now? Rational thinking - more of us (RIGHT THINKING PEOPLE) and less of you (LEFT THINKING PEOPLE??).

We pay the security money as protection money – you are so right about that. To at least have some form of protection against crime. And that has been proven as we have brought the crime rate down significantly since we started and we are still sleeping easy.

And oh, you dispute the fact that we have the majority and wanted to see the signatures and all. Sure, no problem – who are we going to show to when we do not know who you are? If you are not a coward then what are you? Show yourself and we will show you the proof. We have nothing to hide unlike you!

And yes, you are right we have taken the law into our own hands and yes, we have created what you have termed “false sense of security” but hey listen we are cool with that as what we have created has done its job and that is kept us safe for the last year plus or so. I will come to the law issue in a minute.

And oh by the way, who is “GILBERT”?? We only know G-I-B-L-E-T the pest we call him. So if you are referring to the same person then we have good news for you. There is a strong rumor that he is moving out of our area. From the majority of the residence we say - "Good riddance to bad rubbish" – know what I mean?

You are heaving a sigh of relief that living in USJ4 has made the situation better for you as you do not have G&G. Well, keep it that way as the robbers and thieves will eventually have nowhere to go except to USJ4 and maybe to your house. And you have recognised this fact as you have thanked god as you have YET to have G&G in USJ4. I guess since you put it that way, it is only a matter of time!

Another point, we know the law is not on our side but I have news for you. The ruling government is looking into changing the guidelines to ensure that G&G will be at least legal as they recognized that it has proliferated to the point that it is now widely accepted by the majority. This was highlighted in the Key Results Area (KRA) as announced by our Prime Minister recently at the Sunway Convention Centre.

You don't believe me? Ok, contact the Minister in charge of the KPIs and let him tell you personally.

So bottom line, it is only a matter of time before the law will be on our side – then what?. But for now I guess you will just have to put up with the “unlawfulness” of this G&G thingy. And to ensure that we don't get robbed in places outside our G&G, one of the KRA identified is to increase police presence in hot spots. That's what the government intends to do anyway.

But hey, do keep staying in USJ4, as one fine day when your neighbours cannot take the intrusion and abuse by the thieves and robbers anymore (as by then, they have no more place to go and rob people) they may then start a G&G and guess what? You will have another fight on your hands! Good luck.

Lastly, you must be a lazy person as you do not know the use of caps lock on your keyboard! Unless of course you want to type your article ‘loudly’!!! Yes, that must be it – point taken.
