Collection means commencement!

Dear Residents,

The Committee Members and Street Leaders have started collecting the money from all of you for this security project. We are happy to say that the response have been quite good so far although there were some who wanted more information about the operations before they decided to come on board. Most of the residents were very happy with the security project. With the commencement of the collection, we hope to start the operations by 27 September 2008.

I would like highlight two persons who participated from Street 11/3M. A gentleman and Mr. Chin, in particular. Both owned properties in USJ 11/3 but do not live here. They come occasionally to clean up their property. Both have called us up and made payments to our very surprised Street Leader, Michael! He never thought it would have been possible as he had tried many times in the past to get in touch with them before but gotten nowhere. Anyway, thank you Mr. Chin and the other unidentified gentleman for your kind support.

Now, what about the rest of you who live here? Have you done your part yet? If not, please do so as soon as possible.

Anyway, the Committee met last night (5 September 2008) and made many important decisions related to the procurement of car stickers, plaques, guard houses, boom gates, etc. With that done, the many different procurement tasks will be executed as soon as possible. We will also be deciding on which security company to award the contract to and it will be one from the three quotations that we have obtained from three different security companies.

For your information, the criteria for the selection of the guards are:

1. Professionalism, well trained and English speaking.
2. Preferably Napelese as they are known to be very responsible guards. (Locals may cause other problems).
3. Reliability (company stand point).
4. How long have they established themselves?
5. References.
6. Price - are they reasonable?
7. How well equipped are they?
8. Other considerations, public liability insurance, etc.

We will try to meet the target date set and hopefully have the security up and running by then. Also, once the stickers and the peripherals are all are done, it will be distributed to all of you who have paid. Folks, there is no turning back now! Thanks again for your resounding support!

Please do contact your Street Leaders should you have any queries in the meantime.

Thank you.

Do u have another another type of car sticker to those who do not agree to the security system and thus will not be paying for something they do not want ? The majority want this but they are bound to be some who think it is an incovenience to them restricting their passage into n out of the area.
Is this legal putting up guardhouses and gates in a public area ? I recall the hue n cry when political parties put up service centres in some playground and the arguemt put forth is that it is for the benefit of the commumity - provide service to the residents. But it is still illegal to put up structures in public places.
Complains could come fr outsiders who come buy fr the shops in usj11.

Dear Anonymous,

Sorry but somehow I find it strange to call you that as I have mentioned so many times, it is so impersonal.

Let me address the issues that you have raised:

1. Shops - the surrounding area is untouched and therefore outsiders can still get into the shop areas as the access are kept open.

2. Illegal structures - MPSJ are okay for the housing area to have the gates up as long as there are a majority of support who will want the gates up. There is no question as we have more than 70% who have agreed for us to carry out this gated and guarded community.

3. Yes, there will be a car sticker given to one house (for those who do not pay). If they want more stickers, they will have to buy it from the committee otherwise their movements into the housing area will be impeded as the security guards will ask them for their driving license, etc. They will have to fill up a form before stickers will be issued to them in limited numbers.

I hope the answers will be good enough for you. In future, I hope you will sign off at least with your name. At least it will allow me to write (on behalf of the committee members) to you personally.

Thank you.

Hi Jeff

Did I read it wrong? You will be giving each non-participating household one free car sticker, and why should I have to pay RM30 for one card sticker when I am participating?? OK, maybe not RM30 as it is mentioned there is something else (i can't remember) to be place at each house that participating this security measure. It is not the money that count, but is my RM30 been used to sponsor these selfish households? If that is the case, I don''t even consider a single sen for them.

Now I only have one car, do I have to pay RM30 when I got a second car since the RM30 suppose to get me 3 car stickers?

Regards

Dear Jo,

I understand where you are coming from. We have deliberated at length on this matter at our committee meetings. It is diffcult for us to put everything we deliberate on the blog. Let's just say there is a strong and compelling reason for doing what we are doing.

I wish we have some magic answers to please everyone but unfortunately no, we do not have one. If you are still not satisfied with my explanation, I suggest you come for the meetings and we will explain to you face to face.

I try to be objective and honest with the answers posted on this blog as we do not want to confuse anyone, especially the ones who are supporting and paying for it.

I know for a fact that a lot of people who does not want to share the responsibilities (in other words, do not want to pay) who read this blog, post questions to find out what we can and cannot do. And then they will take the easy way out. Well, we are not deterred and we will not be discouraged.

The majority have spoken and we will carry out the mandate given to us. And that is exactly what we are going to do.

For your information, I have deliberately kept some information away from this posting as we do not want to reveal everything that we want to do with the non-paying residents for obvious reasons.

Like I said, if you are still not satisfied, you know where to find us.

Thank you.

Well, I suppose you will have detail accounting posted once everything are done. I would like to see an expense item called Car Stickers for Non-Participating household instead of Miscellaneous, arent we talking about transparency here? Ok, do not want to sound I am so petty here and I am totally understand the reason behind committee's decision on this. I am in total support of it.

Dear Jo,

This is becoming a 'me-you' correspondence which can be easily be done via email. Anyway, on behalf of the committee (there are more than 20 of us by the way), I would like to thank you for your kind support.

I think the best way for one to appreciate the amount of work that goes into this is to actually do it. In this case, we welcome participation from all of you.

Why not you join us as an independant auditor? There is a post vacant for that. It may not be possible for us to post all of the information here as transparency does not mean 'show the world' what one has.

I can only assure you taht it will be transparent and there will be adequate checks and balances in the disbursement of funds, etc. Remember, we are not doing this to benefit ourselves but for the entire community living here in USJ11/3.

If you are still not convinced, we would like to invite you to join us in the committee. It will be better then, as the transparency that you wish for will have your footprint in it.

Please consider as it is a vacant position which badly needs to be filled. You do not need to be a qualified accountant to do that, just common sense on how figures come about. I hope to get a positive response from you.

Thank you and best regards,

Jeffrey Khoo

Yeong from USJ 11/3A. Left a comment elsewhere last nite but was not posted and thus no answer to my queries, so I'm posting here again.

Each house can have max 3 or 4 car sticker as the form has space for 4 cars ? Also another 4 sticker for bike as well ?
Pl let us know how many car and bike sticker we are entitled to B4 we have to pay extra ?

Do we need to write the car/bike registration on the sticker ? If not, then we can lend them to our friends/relatives who drop by.

I can't find the old posting regarding how much we have to pay and what should we write as Payee on the check ?

Thx
Yeong
